I first saw these BPL murals over 20 years ago in a dingy dark space, nearby the murals of his friend Sargent. Now they’ve been cleaned and given a bit more respect, but they’re still little known. Did you take the photos?
The Lucas biography is a treasure. There’s also a catalog from an exhibition in Philadelphia. A good book(or even a calendar) on Abbey is much needed.
Jim, We probably saw the murals around the same time, it was during the Boston Worldcon for me. They are an impressive sight in person. The scans are from an old set of postcards I picked up. I would love to see a good full color book or catolog on Abbey too.
