  1. Thank you for sharing these, Armand. They’re really gorgeous scans. Cornwell had such a wonderful way of making these scenes larger than life and brimming with color. A lot of the copper pots and such in the pictures were from his own collection from his travels.

    They are some of my favorite images by him.

    ‘City of the Great King’images soon. And some of ‘The Robe’ and ‘The Big Fisherman’ as well.

  3. Cornwell’s time with Brangwyn was well-spent. His drawings were used by Barbara Bradley as examples of what to aspire to when I was at the Academy of Art (BFA Illustration) in the late 1980’s.

    We used to be able to check out the original edition of the book from the school library until they found out how valuable it was. And then, fortunately, the reprint came along. One of my treasured art books.

    I made a special point of going to see the murals at the LA Public Library on a trip down south in the early 1990’s and was properly awed.
